Steps to Setup Linksys RE6500HG and RE6500 to Extender mode

In this article, we will guide you for Linksys Extender Setup RE6500 and RE6500HG (AC1200) process using the setup wizard.

For Linksys Extender Setup AC1200 (RE6500 and RE6500HG) follow the easy to execute steps/guidelines below.

Step 1:

Place your Linksys WiFi range extender in the middle of your house – closer to the existing WiFi router and the area without internet. Make sure that you have 100% active signals coming out your main router.

Step 2:

Connect the antennas properly to the Linksys WiFi range extender and its adapter to a power source. Also, note this down that the antennas of your Linksys extender should be positioned upright for optimal results. Moreover, you can use the HG (high-gain) antennas as well (if you have them).

Step 3:

Wait for a few minutes for the LED light on the top panel of your Linksys device start flashing the orange color.

Step 4:

Select the method for Linksys extender setup

Wireless/WiFi Setup – Using a laptop or computer, please connect to your extender's default WiFi name i.e. Linksys extender setup – xxx.

Note: In case you don't see your Linksys extender from the list of available WiFi network, then you are supposed to get more closer to your Linksys WiFi range extender (during the initial setup process). If the WiFi name is still not detected, the reset your device once.

A few Steps on how to reset Linksys extender

• Take a pin or a paper clip.
• Locate the reset hole.
• Insert your grabbed object into the reset hole of your WiFi range extender for a few seconds.
• Release it after that.

Wired Setup – For this process, you have to connect your Linksys extender to your computer or laptop. Ensure that your device (computer or laptop) is not connected to your WiFi network.

Step 5:

Now, on your connected device, open a web browser and in its address bar type http//extender.linksys.com.

Note: You can also use the default IP address of your extender to access the Linksys smart WiFi setup page.

Step 6:

• Click on the 'Start' Button on the displayed 'Welcome to RE6500 setup' page (without quotes).
• 'As a wireless range extender' option should be selected.
• Once done, click on the 'Next' button.

Step 7:

When prompt, select your WiFi from the list available. If not, please hit the 'Refresh' icon.

Step 8:

Type your wireless password and hit on 'Next'.

Step 9:

Now you will be prompted to configure the 'Extended network'. As a matter of fact, the extended network names are appended automatically with an _Ext. You can easily change the names of then and hit on 'Next' after that.

Step 10:

In addition, the 'Spot Finder' feature will determine whether the signal strength between your existing WiFi router and the Linksys range extender is just right. In case, your Linksys device is placed 'Too Close' or 'Too Far', place it to a better location and return to step 3. Once done, click on 'Next'.

Step 11:

Personalized a unique and strong administrator password (when prompted) - enter an optional security hint as well and then, click on 'Next'.

Once the Linksys wireless extender setup process is complete successfully, the setup screen will display. In order to access the Linksys WiFi extender setup page, make sure that you are connected to its wireless name along with the _Ext or _5GHz_Ext appended to the network name.
